BECOMING CATHOLICWe are glad that you are interested in finding out more about the Catholic Church and the Faith she proclaims, celebrates, prays and lives. We hope that this introduction will lead you to discover more about the beauty and riches of the Catholic Church founded by Jesus of Nazareth. If you are interested in becoming Catholic, whether you are unbaptized, were baptized as a Protestant Christian, or a baptized Catholic who wishes to become active again with the Church, we invite you to speak with us. Contact us at the parish office by calling 210.922.0543, or drop by during our office hours, listed here. We encourage you to learn about the RCIA or RCIC programs below. RCIARCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) and RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children) are common ways for those who are currently not practicing the Catholic faith to begin doing so once again. For those who have not yet received some or all of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation) both processes include preparation for and the reception of the sacraments. For those who have received the sacraments, the processes will allow for a growth in understanding about the Catholic faith, and conclude with the participants’ public profession of faith, welcoming them back once again to an active role within the faith community. The individual undergoing the process of RCIA or RCIC as an unbaptized person is known as a catechumen. As a baptized person, the individual is known as a candidate. For detailed information on the process of initiation or re-initiation into the Church for catechumens and candidates, download the Guidelines for the Sacrament of Initiation here. In order to view the file, you will need Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer, which you can obtain free of charge here. |
